ASSISTANT PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR  (REF: 3134) FRENCH

SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES

•        Salary range:  Level B  $76,356 - $90,674 p.a.
•        Salary range:  Level C  $93,535 - $107,854 p.a.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for an academic appointment in the French program within the European Languages and Studies Discipline Group. An appointment will be made at the higher level for a candidate with an advanced standing in a research and teaching career. The position is to commence in January 2011. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in French or related field. Applicants are requested to submit a teaching portfolio as part of their application.

The French program currently offers a three year undergraduate major in French, including language units (beginners, intermediate and advanced streams) and units in cultural studies and literature, an Honours program, and higher degrees by research. The program has strong research interests in French and Francophone literature, postcolonial studies and cultural studies. The preferred candidate will either reinforce the existing research areas, or expand them with his or her expertise in other areas of French and Francophone Studies, Translation Studies, or Teaching French as a Second Language. 
Ability to contribute to additional teaching areas in the faculty will be an advantage.

ROLE STATEMENT

This position will play a leading role in the French program at all levels, including the conduct of research and postgraduate supervision within the school.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.        Undertake and manage undergraduate teaching in French 
language and literature/cultural
studies.
2.        Plan, prepare, deliver and supervise classes in French Studies
3.        Supervise Honours and postgraduate level research.
4.        Apply for external funding to support the research programs 
of the School.
5.        Teach other programs within the School, Faculty and 
University in related areas
6.        Other duties as directed by the Head of School
